Aftercare & Maintenance Guide

Our hair extensions can last many months if cared for correctly. In order for you to maintain healthy extensions, the following guide contains important information we recommend you read and follow.

The important bit

The lifespan of your hair extensions will depend on the aftercare. We do not guarantee a definitive lifespan on any type of hair extensions due to them being a natural consumable product. Human hair extensions are made from Remy human hair that is paid for and sourced ethnically to create our hair extensions. Each pack of hair will never truly have identical characteristics, the lifespan of the hair will vary depending on the colour and how it is maintained. Our suppliers raw hair partners deliver us with human hair that is certificated by our suppliers before purchasing.

  • Please ensure that you are happy with the colour selected before fitting or application during your consultation. Once the hair is removed from the packaging for hygiene reasons we do not offer returns on extensions.

  • Colour can sometimes vary from batch to batch due to the characteristics of raw human hair, this is more noticeable in hand coloured balayage, highlighted or mixed toned hair.

  • We do not recommend silver shampoos. Toners can damage the cuticle which will effect the lifespan of your hair extensions.

  • We only recommend Beauty Works Anti-Yellow shampoo on hair extensions, providing the instructions are followed. Toners and silver shampoos that are overused can affect the lifespan of your hair extensions and are not designed for everyday use. All colour treatments on extensions are done at the clients own risk.

  • Excessive washing and styling will damage the cuticle and decrease the lifespan of your hair extensions. We recommend that you should use the recommended aftercare products and only wash the hair 2-3 times per week.

  • Using excess heat on hair extensions will reduce their lifespan. Take care of your hair extensions as you would your own hair and remember that like your natural hair, your hair extensions can be easily damaged with too much heat.

Lifestyle

  1. Strictly avoid salt water - it can discolour hair and leave your hair dry

  2. Chlorine content in water will damage hair extensions, causing matting and discolouration; therefore, it is advisable to avoid underwater swimming.

  3. UV rays will discolour hair extensions; therefore, we advise wearing a hat in the sun and avoiding strong UV rays. Our Beauty Works 10 in 1 Miracle Spray contains UV protection.

  4. Tongs, hair straighteners and heated rollers can be used on your hair extensions with a recommended temperature of up to 180 degrees. However, it is advisable not to use them too much as this can cause your hair extensions to dry out considerably, causing breakage and snapping.

Aftercare

  • Washing

    Shampoo your hair extensions with the recommended sulphate free shampoo and thoroughly rinse through twice to ensure a good clean.

    When conditioning let the conditioner soak into your hair extensions before rinsing. Avoid the root area and thoroughly rinse to avoid build up.

    Apply a recommended oil to damp hair to lock in moisture and to ensure the hair extensions are nourished. This can be applied to both damp and dry hair.

  • Brushing

    The hair extensions are attached to your natural hair and therefore pulling them can result in pulling out your natural hair. Start brushing your hair from the bottom and move slowly towards the top.

    Ensure you are using a professional recommended extension brush to avoid breakage and damage to your own hair. Our recommended Boar Bristle brushes have been designed specifically for all types of hair extensions.

  • Sleeping

    Never go to sleep with wet hair; always make sure you extensions are completely dry to avoid tangling.

    When sleeping, braid your hair extensions to avoid tangling which will stop the cuticles from rubbing together.

    Silk Pillowcases are great to avoid the cuticles rubbing together whilst you sleep.
